How To: mcMMO
« on: February 11, 2012, 01:46:22 am »
What are these levels I'm gaining and why do I need them?

mcMMO adds a skill set to Minecraft. You gain levels as you complete basic Minecraft tasks, mining, fishing, woodcutting etc. These skills gain you certain rewards based on your level, below is a brief overview of mcMMO. Please check the official mcMMO pages for more info:-

Wiki: http://mcmmo.wikia.com/
DevBukkit: http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/mcmmo/

Basics

Any item below marked with (Ability) is an ability that needs to be activated, is timed and works on a cool down system.
To activate these abilities hold the relevant tool in your hand and click the right mouse button, your next click of the left mouse this will display a **YOU READY YOUR <tool>**, if you do not activate the ability a few seconds later you will see **YOU LOWER YOUR <tool>**.
The skills work on a cool down, most are set by default at 4 minutes, you will receive a notification telling you when the skill is ready to be used again.
Abilities are also timed, starting at 2s and raising by 1s every 50 levels.

Any ability that has a 'chance' to do something is usually set a 0.1%*level, meaning that at level 100 your 'chance' is 100%

Skills are groups into 3 categories and will be arranged below in such order.
ctrl+f/cmd+f <skillname> will help you find the relevant skill faster.
Most of the info below can be found by using
/skillname in game

Gathering

Mining - Gain XP through mining stone and ores.
◆    Super Breaker (Ability) - Speed+, Triple drop chance.
◆    Double Drops - Double the normal loot

Super Breaker provides faster mining (instant) and a small chance for triple drops
Double drop chance increases by 0.1% per level, at level 1000 your double drop chance is 100%.

Excavation - Gain XP through digging and finding treasures
◆    Giga Drill Breaker (Ability) - 3x Drop Rate, 3x XP, + Speed
◆    Treasure Hunter: Ability to dig for treasure

Treasure starts being found at level 25, starting with glowstone dust, level 50 you get cocoa beans etc, as you progress through th levels you find rarer items, at level you find music discs, at level 350 you find diamonds, each treasure has a low drop rate percentage.

Woodcutting - Gain XP through chopping down trees.
◆    Tree Feller (Ability) -  Make trees explode
◆    Leaf Blower - Blow away leaves
◆    Double Drops - Double the normal loot.

Tree feller explodes a tree, it is an AoE ability and will destroy nearby saplings and nearby trees may also be destroyed.
Leaf Blower is a 'secondary' ability and is only possible after level 100, 'tap' your left mouse button on a leaf and the leaf will instantly disappear with a 10% chance of dropping a sapling.
Double drop chance increases by 0.1% each level (level 1000 = 100% double drop chance)

Herbalism - Gain XP through harvesting plants
◆   Green Terra (Ability) - Spread the Terra (will grow grass on any clicked dirt)
◆   Green Thumb (Wheat) - AutoPlants when harvesting (percentage per level undetermined)
◆   Green Thumb (Cobble) - Cobblestone has a chance to be turned mossy when clicked with seeds
◆   Double Drops - Double the normal loot

Herbalism is possibly the slowest skill to level up, to increase the speed build the largest farm you possibly can, as a basis, if you need to start harvesting again by the time you finish, that's the fastest way to level.

Fishing - Gain XP Through fishing (currently does not show up in game, we are working on this)
◆   Treasure Hunter (Passive): Fish up misc objects
◆   Magic Hunter: Find enchanted items
◆   Shake (vs. Entities): Shake items off of mobs w/ fishing pole

As with excavation, fishing can earn you certain items. These items are arranged into tiers, tier 1 contains basic items (leather armour, stone tools), tier 5 contains much rarer and more expensive items (Diamond armour/tools, diamonds)
Shake will not gain you any XP but will cause mobs to drop their standard items.

Combat

Axes - Gain XP through attacking monsters.
◆   Skull Splitter (Ability) - Deal AoE damage
◆   Critical Strikes - Double damage
◆   Axe Mastery - Modifies damage

At axe level 500 your "Axe Mastery" increases damage from 2 hearts to 4 hearts (with a diamond axe).
To maximise damage, use a diamond axe, however at level 350 using a golden axe will cause zombies to ignite and level 450 causes creepers to explode.

Archery - Gain XP through attacking monsters.
◆   Ignition - 25% - Chance that enemies will ignite.
◆   Daze (Players) - Disorients enemy players.
◆   Arrow Retrieval - Chance to retrieve arrows from corpses

Ignition is a passive ability but is set on a timer, increasing by 1 second every 200 levels.

Swords - Gain XP through attacking monsters.
◆   Counter Attack - Reflect 50% of damage taken
◆   Serrated Strikes (Ability) - 25% AoE damage, Bleed+ AoE
   ◆   Serrated Strikes Bleed+ - 5 tick Bleet
◆   Bleed: Apply a bleed DoT

The Bleed ability for Swords is too complex to explain here, please check the wiki for more information: http://mcmmo.wikia.com/wiki/Swords

Taming - Gain XP through your wolves getting harmed.

   ◆   Beast Lore - Bone-whacking inspects wolves
◆   Gore - Critical Strike that applies Bleed
◆   Sharpened Claws - Sharpened Claws
◆   Environmentally Aware - Cactus/Lava Phobia (hooray!), Fall DMG Immune
◆   Thick Fur - DMG Reduction, Fire Resistance
◆   Shock Proof - Explosive Damage Reduction
◆   Call Of The Wild - Summon a wolf to your side

These skills, excluding Beast Lore and Call of The Wild apply to your wolves, not to you.
To activate Call Of The Wild - Crouch and right click with 10 bones in hand. This sacrifices 10 bones, be sure to have more than 10 in order to tame your summoned wolf.

Unarmed - Gain XP through attacking monsters
◆   Berserk (Ability) - +50 damage, breaks weak materials
◆   Disarm (Players) - Drops the foes item held in hand
◆   Unarmed Mastery - Large damage upgrade
◆   Arrow Deflect - Deflects arrows

Berserk will instantly break the following materials: dirt, grass, sand, clay and gravel.
Disarming chance is 0.025%*unarmedlevel (level 1000 = 25% chance)
At level 250 (Apprentice) you gain 1 heart of extra damage. Level 500 (Master)  you gain a further 2 hearts, totalling 3 extra hearts damage.

Miscellaneous

Acrobatics - Gain XP through falling (specifically taking fall damage)
◆   Roll - Reduces or negates fall damage
◆   Graceful Roll - Twice as effective as Roll
◆   Dodge - Reduces damage by half.

Rolling is a passive ability, with the standard 0.1%*level chance. Graceful Roll has a higher percentage but must be 'activated' not in the normal way however, to activate Graceful Roll you must hold shift whilst falling and continue to hold it until you have landed.

Repair - Repairing items with an anvil.
◆   Repair - Repair Iron Tools and Armour (including stone tools, not leather armour though)
◆   Repair Mastery - Increase repair amount
◆   Super Repair - Double effectiveness
◆   Diamond Repair (Level 50+)  - Repair diamond tools and armour
◆   Arcane Forging: Repair magic (enchanted) items

Again the wiki page does a better job of explaining the nuances of Repairing than I can in this basic overview. Please read the wiki page before asking any question: http://mcmmo.wikia.com/wiki/Repair

Basic: How-to Repair:
You need to place an iron block. Nothing special about it just place it down.
You need to gather the resource you used to make your item. If you're repairing an iron pickaxe you need 3 iron ingots (no sticks). Hold the damaged item in your hand and right click on the anvil. This will use up 1 of the ingots, keep right clicking to keep repairing. Below level 100 you WILL lose any enchantments, above level 100 you still have a very high chance to lose the enchantment

If you reach a certain level does it restart? My mining level was 313 or 314 and then it just went back to 0 along with all my other skills.

No that is my fault (kinda), there is a problem that the French refuse to address and there is nothing I can do to prevent it happening, I have recently download a backup plugin that also creates a backup of the plugin folder. The next time the MCMMO files are reset I should be able to restore.

Oh Okay, I don't really care that I lost my level I was just concerned that I was doing something wrong. Silly French people.
